As a display option that can be turned on or off, but defaults to on for fteapot at least, show the cell labels. (It is convenient for this that a cell can have at most one label). They could be in a small, different-colored, different font (maybe italic) at the top left of the cell in fteapot, and in teapot they would just have to be in a different color at the beginning of the entry.
