Better-looking point #3
Can we get some depth/shading? Point should be smaller. Try stipple texture, see how that looks.
Actually, I think it makes more sense to go with three's native point rendering, using small disks, that do not have sizeAttenuation. But keep the low-poly sphere in the scene (maybe move it back) to keep the sense of viewing 3D things reasonable. Then have a separate point object which will be made active.
I think things will look much better if I just add some light, like maybe a DirectionalLight or a HemisphereLight. But first get the z axis up to start with, whatever that means exactly.
Much improved with the latest commit. Just a HemisphereLight seems to work fine. But one gotcha is that even when the sphere is low-poly, light is being reflected from it as if it were a sphere, i.e. like the light reflection pattern of a sphere mapped on to a low-poly shape, which was obscuring the edges. Switching the demo object to an icosahedron improved the situation for testing. Also got the camera adjusted so that the z-axis starts up.
